wanDEARers' Ventures - - - Abra (Bur Dubai & Deira)

Whenever I visit a place and get fascinated by it; I always think of the past… then asked myself silently...

How did people survive before?

No technology… no air conditioning system… no fancy cars or transportation to take them from one place to another…

Anything you can think of that you have right now which they don’t have before…

Do you think you’ll make it?

Just knowing how people make it through really fascinates me. So whenever I visit a place… I make sure to learn their past and at least experience it… one step at a time…

In today’s blog, I’ll feature Dubai’s traditional mode of sea transport.

Dubai Abra… Abra which comes from the Arabic verb “abara” --- meaning to cross.

It's even more amazing knowing that some people (or country) gets to preserve their culture and traditions. It allows the younger generation to experience the way of life from thousands of decades back and learn something valuable that they can pass on to their future children.

Today... wanDEARers' experienced..

THE ABRA

Abra is a traditional boat used for sea transportation from Bur dubai to Deira or Gold Souq and vice versa. The boat can hold around 20 people and is one of the cheapest means of transportation I have ever tried on.

Imagine... WHERE CAN YOUR 1 BILL TAKE YOU?

People from Dubai and travelers from different countries can experience one means of sea transportation used by locals thousands of years back to cross between Deira and Bur Dubai by just spending around 1 Dirham. The boat ride would usually take around 14-15 minutes. And if I'm not mistaken, you can also rent an Abra for yourself and take a ride and tour the creek and the nearby areas for 2 hours or so; which will cost you around 120 Dirhams.

Here's a photo taken during our trip...

The Souq Experience

I considered this mini trip not just a fun experience... but a memorable one. Something that I'd be proud of sharing...
